Peter James Gregory (Grigoriou)

It is with immeasurable sadness that the family of Peter James Gregory announces that he peacefully reposed to the Lord surrounded by family on January 17, 2023, aged 88. Peter “Pete” Gregory was born on the 8th of February 1934 in the village of Kalithies on the island of Rhodes, Greece to parents Paraskevi and Dimitri Grigoriou. He married his loving wife, Sophia Gregory (née Demitra) on July 10, 1960. The couple was married for 62 wonderful years and had three daughters. He was the beloved “Pappou” to seven adoring grandchildren. He faithfully served the United States as a member of the occupation forces division of the Army after World War II in Germany. He went on to work as a police officer for the City of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania for 15 years and was the secretary for the Fraternal Order of Police. During his time as a police officer, he enjoyed having the opportunity to help many new immigrants to the United States by aiding them in obtaining driver’s licenses so they could work and provide for their families. He also worked for the Aliquippa and Southern Railroad Company, where he enjoyed being a general chairman for Division 590 of the LTV division of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) Labor Union. Pete was also the recipient of a U.S. Patent Deed. A lifelong parishioner of Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, Pete served many years on the Parish Council. He generously gave of his time in numerous church activities and organizations. He was also a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) and a founder of its scholarship program. He held all positions in AHEPA with the exception of the organization’s presidency. Pete was an avid hunter who enjoyed the excitement of hunting small game. He loved war movies, history books, and card games. He was an excellent storyteller, a lifelong learner, and a wealth of knowledge who never tired of spending time with friends and family. Pete is survived by his wife Sophia, children, Christine (Michael) Kopar, Georgia (Ronald) Dovshek, and Patricia (Stephen) Rader, grandchildren Lia (Kosta), Peter (Alexxis), Christopher, Maria, Emanuel, George, and Sophia, and sisters Margaret (Gus) Tsivitis, and Marian Bugitzedes. Friends and family will be received on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 4-8 PM in the ANTHONY MASTROFRANCESCO FUNERAL HOME Inc. 2026 McMinn Street Aliquippa PA 15001 724-375-0496. A trisagion service will be held at 5 pm. Additional visitation will be held in the Kimisi Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday from 9:00 am until time of service at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pete may be made to Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The Beaver County Special Unit will provide full military honors at the cemetery.
