Helen (Bernola) Cortese

Helen (Bernola) Cortese, 88 of Aliquippa passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones who loved her on April 29, 2015.She was born February 4, 1927 in Aliquippa and was the daughter of the late Paris and Lena (Santia) Bernola, Sr. In addition to her parents she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Albert J. Cortese, her two brothers: Edward V. Bernola, Paris Bernola, Jr. and a sister, Dolores Kolich all who preceded Helen in death.Helen was a faithful member of Saint Titus Roman Catholic Church. She was devoted to the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and the CD of A where she served as past president for both organizations. Helen was also a member of San Cataldo Committee and was honored by the organization. She found much enjoyment spending time with her friends at Fab 50 at St. Titus Church playing bingo or going to the casino. Helen was a wonderful baker and was especially known for her delicious cheesecakes. Surviving Helen are her loving children. Son, James Cortese and Carol Thomas, daughter: Maribeth Dushac and her husband Dave who Helen loved like a son. Two grandchildren, that she cherished Zachary Dushac and his wife Anne and Alison Dushac. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren Trey Austin and Emerson Ray Dushac. Helen shared a special bond with her sisters-in-law: Nancy and Priscilla Bernola and her love was extended to her many cousins, especially Doreen, Alex and Melinda. Her special, devoted friends: Betty, Jean and Kathy. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the ANTHONY MASTROFRANCESCO FUNERAL HOME INC. 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa. Departing prayers will be begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 in St. Titus Church. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Villa St. Joseph especially, Dr. Thimons, Kathy, and the aides at 2B, for the exceptional care that was given to their mother.In Lieu of flowers donations may be made, if desired, to Villa St. Joseph 1030 W.
