Verna (Blaz) Mrozek

February 28, 1924 - August 22, 2018

Verna Blaz Mrozek 94, passed away on August 22, 2018. Verna was born on February 28, 1924 in Aliquippa PA, where she lived her entire 94 years. She graduated from Aliquippa High School. After graduation, Verna worked at J&L Steelworks until the birth of her first child. She was married to the late Bernard J. Mrozek for over 44 years. She was the daughter of the late Walter Blaz and Anna Data Blaz. Verna loved to spend time with her family and friends. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Bernard (Pam) Mrozek, John (Barbara) Mrozek, daughters and sons-in-law; Cindie (Barnett) Selling, Michele Mrozek (Tom Tribone), and Jenene (Tom) Cwalina. She was a beloved Babcia to her twelve grandchildren; Jennifer Mrozek (Greg Buzzell); Catherine (Andres Dietz-Chavez), Lizzie, Ann (James Thwaits), and Victoria Tribone; Joshua and Jonathan (Erika) Selling; Veronica, Caroline, Tom, Stefanie, and Lydia Cwalina. Verna was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Atticus and Ansel Buzzell. Verna was a life-long member of St. Titus Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was an active member and officer of the local PNA lodge and supportive of all things Polish. She kept the tradition of the Christmas Eve Wigilia and passed it down to her family. Though she rarely travelled outside the Pittsburgh area, her favorite trip was to Poland where she was able to visit her father’s village, meet her relatives, and dance a polka at a real Polish wedding. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 pm in the Anthony Mastrofrancesco Funeral Home Inc. 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa 724-375-0496. Departing prayers will begin at 9:00 am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 am in St. Titus Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Verna to the Kosciusko Foundation, that promotes Polish culture and tradition in the Pittsburgh area, Pittsburgh Chapter, P.O. Box 258, Gibsonia, PA 15044. The Confraternity of Christian Mothers will recite the rosary Friday, 5:30 pm in the funeral home.
