February 10, 1923 - July 31, 2018
On July 31, 2018 our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Dorothy Cavoulas Herrick, (Nanny) closed her eyes and peacefully went to sleep. She was born February 10, 1923 in Pittsburgh. Dorothy was the last remaining legacy of her parents, Michael and Virginia Cavoulas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Herrick and her six siblings: Pauline Travlos, Harry Cavoulas, Fannie Cavoulas, Lee Smith, Nick Cavoulas and Gus Cavoulas. She began working at 16 years old making rolls at Valonis bakery. She gained employment with J&L Steelworks in the Tin Mill Department where she flipped tin. There she met her husband Eddie, a tractor driver, and shared 53 beautiful years together before his death on November 30, 2004. Dorothy proudly and faithfully worked with her daughter for 36 years at Patti’s Pastries and was lovingly coined by her granddaughter as the “bakery mascot”. Dorothy was a pillar of strength and support for her daughters and grand children She was always ready to lend a helping hand. She especially enjoyed folding clothes, “spit shining” sinks, and sharing tips on keeping a clean house. She got great joy from spending countless self-sacrificing hours with her grand children and her great grand children who were the love of her life. Dorothy’s legacy lives on through her two daughters and sons-in-law: Donna and Daniel Java and Patriciann and Daniel Schvabenitz. Four grandchildren Danielle and Mark Dragoo, Nicole and Travis Morris, Michelle and Greg Carlucci, Nicholas and Michelle Schvabenitz, seven great grandchildren; Jakob and Matalyn Morris, Samuel and Piper Dragoo, Roman and Evelina Carlucci, and Mikayla Hartnett. Dorothy was a member of the Aliquippa Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Throughout her life she shared the Bible based promise of a paradise earth and hope of a resurrection that her mother Virginia courageously and faithfully instilled in her heart. In her memory, Dorothy’s family would like to invite dear friends and family members to join them for a memorial service to be held Sunday, August 12, 2018, 4:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 1132 Morrow Road, Hopewell Township where Dorothy’s hope will be shared with those whom she loved so dearly. In lieu of flowers the family would request all to visit www.jw.org to learn more about the bible promises for our future.
