November 16, 1956 - October 27, 2018
Barnett Selling, a resident of Cranberry Twp., Pa., passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018, after a three-year long battle with cancer. Barnett was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin and Jacobeth; his son, Benjamin; a brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Marilyn. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Mrozek; his two sons, Joshua and Jonathan (Erika); brothers, Allen (Enid Marcus), Sherwood (Laura), and sister, Judy. Barnett was born in Erie, Pa., on November 16, 1956. He grew up in Erie and graduated from Academy High School in 1974. Barnett graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977 with a Bachelors of Arts (Geography) and from Gannon College in 1979 with a Masters in Arts (Social Sciences). It was during his time at the University of Pittsburgh that he met his future wife, Cynthia, who studied Metallurgical Engineering; he always said she was the brains of the family! After completing his Master's degree, Barnett served in the United States Army in the 197th Infantry Brigade, stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After serving in the Army (he enlisted in the reserves for the remainder of his life), he moved back to Pittsburgh, Pa., and married Cynthia on April 3, 1982. They had three sons, Benjamin (1991), Joshua (1993), and Jonathan (1995). Benjamin passed away shortly after birth due to medical complications. Joshua and Jonathan both still reside in Pittsburgh, Pa. He never missed a single band concert, soccer game, or family event. Barnett was so proud of both Joshua and Jonathan, and always described them as his greatest achievement. Barnett was a loving, devoted, and ever-present father, entrepreneur, and collector. He held a variety of business ventures, including operating a Sunoco gas station, three car washes, and a rigging company. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and baseball cards, photography, and watching movies with his family (especially John Wayne movies). He was a spiritual man, who grew up attending a Conservative Synagogue in Erie. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, especially for his incessant talking and ability to hold a conversation with anyone. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aliquippa, Pa.
