Irene "Gina" Colangelo Di Tommaso

Irene “Gina” (Colangelo) Di Tommaso , 92 of Aliquippa passed away with her loving family by her side July 20, 2017. She was born May 26, 1925 in Bugnara, Italy and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Vincenza (Di Tommaso) Colangelo. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years: Salvatore Di Tommaso, an infant son: Giovanni Di Tommaso, Four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Angelo (Alice) Colangelo, Armand (Rose) Colangelo, Dante (Silvia) Colangelo and Patsy Colangelo. Two brothers-in-law and and sister-in-law: Ercole (Alba) Di Tommaso and Giovanni Di Tommaso. Mrs. Di Tommaso was a member of St. Titus Roman Catholic Church, Aliquippa She worked as an Italian trained seamstress/embroider. On an historical note, Gina at the age of sixteen secretly delivered food to US soldiers in hiding during WII when her village in Bugnara, Italy was surrounded by the enemy. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers. She loved cooking for family and friends as she radiated her grace and love. She loved traveling to her favorite places: Punta Cana, Florida and the beach. Mrs. Di Tommaso is survived by her children: Anthony (Linda) Di Tommaso, Philadelphia and a daughter, Niva Di Tommaso and Fiancee Bruce Zavarello, Aliquippa Two grandchildren and their spouses: Michael (Alexis) Di Tommaso, Philadelphia, Maria (David) Ford, Baltimore. Six great grandchildren: Olivia, Luca, Matthew, Nicholas Di Tommaso and Caroline and Declan Ford. She is also survived by a sister-in-law: Alma Colangelo. Mrs. Di Tommaso is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, an adopted daughter and friend Virginia Voegler and Gina's beloved Dog Gizmo. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. in the Anthony Mastrofrancesco Funeral Home Inc. 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa 15001 (724) 375-0496. Departing prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m.St. Titus Roman Catholic Church, with Father Mark Thomas. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Berniee Simons and staff, the nurses of Concordia and the nurses and staff of Good Samaritan Hospice.
